1.The 3rd and 4th Commandos, code names CHERRY and CRABAPPLE,
were selected to act as honor guard at the discussion of surrender terms
between high Allied and Japanese officials.
2.They were off-loaded at Chihkiang on 21 August and then proceded on
27 August to Nanking, where they secured the airport. New uniforms and
jump boots were procured for all personnel and they were complimented
by higher commanders for their fine discipline and appearance.
3. The Americans assigned to these Commandos returned to Kunming when
the units were attached to the 6th Army in Nanking.
